Encompass Credit Union was established in 1953 as Transrail Credit Union, a small cooperative aimed at helping working individuals achieve financial independence. It was mostly aimed at workers from the transport industry, but eventually opened to other members as well. It officially changed to its current name on 15 December 1997, and has since grown to 23,000 members with over $200 million in assets.
